Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban wants one thing out of his quarterbacks this camp. The dominant Saban said emphatically that he wants his quarterbacks to make him play them.

“What I tell the quarterbacks is it’s not up to the coaches. you’re looking over your shoulder to see if a coach is going to do this or that? How about you forcing me to play you?” Saban said via On3 Sports. The Alabama coach spoke to reporters after Crimson Tide practice this week. Saban continued.

“Force us to play you,” he said. “When you get your reps in, you get a chance to play, you play so good we don’t have any chance but to play you rather than worrying about all this other stuff.”

Alabama quarterbacks have undergone quite an evolution over time. After game managers emerged like Greg McElroy and A.J. McCarron in the early years of the Saban Dynasty, the position saw a huge boom after Jalen Hurts arrived. Hurts quickly became a sensation and helped lead to others following. Tua Tagovailoa and Bryce Young then came around, setting a high standard for the position at the program. So whoever it is, whether Jalen Milroe, Tyler Buchner, or Ty Simpson, they will have huge cleats to fill. And it sounds like Saban just wants one of them to take the job.
